Meryl Streep wowed at a recent appearance, looking more fresh and vibrant than ever! Although in awe, many questioned how this 65 year old could look so fantastic and yet also somewhat unrecognizable. Meryl has responded to all the talk about her appearance. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the Oscar winner says she looks different because she is healthier and happier than ever.

“I think it’s sweet that they think I look different! I feel different, like a whole new woman. I’m happy. I love my 60’s! My kids are grown and I’m onto the next phase, an even more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows,” Streep, says of the attention she has received.

“My friends and employees say that I look serene. That’s what it is..…serenity!” Streep continues. “For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with my health. I took on a schedule that was not realistically sustainable and didn’t allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things.” (a quick irritated aside to her personal assistant, “Geez who wrote this?”)

“You know, ultimately, people will believe what they want to believe. Even I can’t stop them. So what I just say is Screw em! I’m Meryl Streep!” she cackled.
