KOPECKNE DROWNS IN KENNEDY TRAGEDY
Following a party for his assassinated brother Bobby’s presidential campaign workers, Ted Kennedy gives Mary Jo Kopeckne a lift back to her hotel room in Martha’s Vineyard. They never make it over the Chappaquidick Creek Bridge.
Disoriented and in a state of shock, he abandons the car submerged upside down underwater. He does not contact police until the next morning. Any Presidential aspirations he had are abandoned as well on this day when Apollo 11 enters it’s orbit around the Moon- the ultimate mission of his brother John’s Space Race Program.
