Thanks to the over the top, “side splitting” antics of Ellen Degeneres and her mind boggling tweet, the 2014 Academy Awards reached an audience of over 43 million people around the world, it’s largest audience in 10 years. Hoping to repeat those ratings, the CEO of Hollywood, George Clooney, had asked Ellen to host the show once again next year before moving on to Neil Patrick Harris.
“You know that really was some hard work for me, and although I would have loved to do it again, I am not sure that I would be able to top myself. That tweet was just the top of the comedy ladder as far as I can see,” said Ellen in a thoughtful, yet unavoidably comic way. “Taking a picture of me with some stars, and sending it around the world with some text, for 3 million to see on their little phones, knowing that I had just taken it on the show, with hundreds more stars, who couldn’t fit on their phone, being watched by over 40 million people, and they were watching on their big, flat screen TV’s is rather pretty mind blowing. I mean think of it! I’ve been trying to explain it to Portia for the past 10 months. It’s like looking into a mirror, reflecting a mirror, reflecting a mirror, etc. I mean Gah! Where do I go from there?”
Since that tweet has gone on to be the number one, most re-tweeted tweet of the year, she is hoping the academy will create a new category for Best Tweet and Best Tweet with Selfie, and present her with this year’s golden statuette. Think of this, bragged Ellen, “Ask anyone if they remember what won Best Picture last year, and then ask who sent the Top Tweet?” Ellen then took a selfie with this reporter and immediately rocketed it around the world. “I’m always working,” she said before breaking into some sort of dance. Comic Genius!
