M’Lynn Partridge received her two week notice today, and although it’s rather a sad day for M’Lynn, it’s a great day for NBC News! After polls revealed that a majority of viewers want Brian Williams returned to the anchor seat on The NBC Evening News, in spite of his story embellishments, executives have realized “it’s really not all that important for news to be true”. One exec said, “What we have learned is, that if you tell an interesting story, nobody cares if it is based on fact or complete fabrication!”

This really does remove a lot of pressure on the news division to ensure accuracy in their reporting. With that and the cost savings in mind, it was announced today that they have given notice to the last full time fact checker working at the network, although they still plan on using high school interns on an “as needed” basis.

Another news producer explained that, “Facts, like punctuation, and good grammar in general, are like a dinosaur that has seen its day. The world of news is now advanced to such an amalgam of conjecture, rumor, opinion, gossip, and promotion, it is virtually impossible to fact check anyway, as facts constantly change from each point of view and often are just a matter of opinion. And now that we know that people don’t care, isn’t it more important that we make it interesting? That we entertain viewers?”

Ms. Partridge said she holds no grudges against NBC and told us, “I had a good run and truth be known, I really was only glancing at things the last couple of years. I was just so damn bored! And I am really glad nobody ever closely checked my own resume.
