Here’s Mary’s debate format wish. Both candidates get asked questions while in isolation booths. Each can hear when the other is speaking but their microphone is off. They are asked a question and if they do not answer the question asked and start veering off to campaign rhetoric or attacks, their microphone gets cut off and the opponent gets the additional time. They are given time to rebut as usual, but the same rules are in effect. They can say a statement is false but they cannot call the other a liar or they also forfeit their time. And nobody is allowed to use the “P” word. Maybe we can actually get some answers to issues and the candidates alleged plans to move the country forward and unite us. Or at the very least, some civilized discourse without the need of a dramamine or a Pepto-Bismol cocktail.
